Six Days in Shawwal

6 Days = 1 Year!!

All praises and thanks are due to Allah. We thank Allah both for His favors and afflictions. May Allah accept our good deeds and grant us His mercy. Ameen… Ameen… Ameen…

Ayyub (Allah be pleased with him) relates that the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace be upon him, his family, and companions) said, “Whoever fasts Ramadan and follows it with six days from Shawwal it is as if they fasted the entire year.” [Muslim, Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi, and Ibn Majah; Ahmad transmitted it from Jabir,]

Thawban (Allah be pleased with him) relates that the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace be upon him, his family, and companions) said, “Whoever fasts Ramadan, and then six days after Eid, it is [like fasting] an entire year. Whoever does a good deed shall have ten times its reward.” [Ibn Majah,]

How do we welcome the blessed month of Ramadan?

The month of Ramadan is a blessed month. The days of fasting are a fixed number of days let us therefore strive to derive the utmost benefit from this month by increasing our worship of Allah and abstaining from all forbidden things.

How can we benefit from Ramadan?

Before we answer the above question let us ask how we can welcome the month of Ramadan. We are required before the month of Ramadan begins to do the following:

1.       To seek forgiveness from Allah and avoid anything that will incur the wrath of Allah. Allah (SWT) says: “All of you shall repent to GOD, O you believers that you may succeed.” Holy Quran 24:31

2.       Our Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “O you who believe repent to Allah; I repent to Allah and seek His forgiveness one hundred times day” Muslim

3.       We will welcome the Ramadan by making a schedule and planning ahead for the various righteous duties we intend to perform Allah willing:

a)      Set the time for reciting and pondering the meaning of the Holy Quran

b)      Set time for supererogatory prayers

c)       Set time to offer charity

d)      And so on.

4.       We will welcome Ramadan by thanking Allah for his many blessings including making us reach this Holy Month. Many are the people who fasted with us the last Ramadan and who are no longer with us

Let us therefore remember Allah’s countless favors and benefit from the Holy month of Ramadan. How can we benefit from Ramadan?

We will Allah willing be distributing articles in the near future that will address the ways to benefit from the blessed month of Ramadan.
